A nice easy way to decide what staff size is right for you is to go to Home Depot and grab dowel rods of various lengths and thicknesses and spin them around. I was about to order a staff that was 1.25" in diameter, but I learned that although I have big hands, I'm much more comfortable with a 3/4" staff in my hands.
